Statutory Goal 1: Environment
- ISO 14001: An international certification that affirms the presence of a structured environmental management system that continuously improves the environmental performance of a company. Acqua dell’Elba has begun receiving support from T-Prisma SRL, a consultancy, and expects to be certified by the end of 2024. The main actions required include an overhaul of facilities and updating the company policies on waste management.
- FSC (Forest Stewardship Council): Certification guaranteeing that any forest products, such as wood and paper, come from sustainable sources. Acqua dell’Elba has completed the activities required by Bureau Veritas and is awaiting confirmation of certification, after having updated its organisational charts, company policies and procedures for monitoring suppliers.
- Carbon Footprint (ISO 14064): A standard quantifying the greenhouse gas emissions of an organisation. Acqua dell’Elba’s calculations show it offset 1,000 tons of CO₂ in 2023 through VCS-VERRA-certified carbon credits deriving from a renewable energy project in India.
- Pollinators for Biodiversity Project: An initiative aiming to restore the honeybee population by setting up organic beehives. The project has been suspended due to technical and organisational obstacles, but is set to restart in 2025.
- Kyoto Club: Non-profit organisation promoting policies that help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, in line with the targets set by the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement. Acqua dell’Elba’s membership of Kyoto Club underscores its commitment to environmental and social sustainability.
Statutory Goal 2: People and Beauty
- PAS 24000: An international standard that provides guidelines for managing social performance and protecting human rights within companies. Acqua dell’Elba is working towards achieving this certification by 31 December 2024, by implementing procedures for anonymous reporting and updating the company policy.
- ISO 45001: International standard for managing health and safety in the workplace, aimed at reducing risks and improving worker safety. The actions currently being taken towards certification include updating the Risk Assessment Document (DVR in Italian) as well as appointing a Prevention and Protection Service Manager (RSPP) and Worker Safety Representative (RLS).
- UNI/PdR 125:2022: Certification promoting gender equality within organisations, improving company performance through diversity and inclusion policies. Acqua dell’Elba is implementing policies concerning work-life balance and gender equality, through senior figures and educational programmes running on the island of Elba and in partnership with schools.
- Training: Every year, Acqua dell’Elba invests in training for its staff in areas beyond their daily work. In 2023, the focus was on financial literacy. In 2024, training centred around artificial intelligence, in partnership with IULM University.
Statutory Goal 3: Local sustainability
- Elba2035: An initiative promoting sustainable growth in the area and for the Elban community. Acqua dell’Elba has partnered with local schools and institutions like the European Commission and UNESCO to secure a recognised status for Elban schools: “Blue Schools”. This reflects the education they offer in relation to the oceans.
- Green Week: Annual event organised by Acqua dell’Elba and its Fondazione, with a series of workshops and debates around environmental, economic and social sustainability. During Green Week 2024, Acqua dell’Elba announced the results of its actions in aid of sustainability and took part in Blue Friday, a UNESCO event in Venice about protecting the oceans.
- Tartalove and Vele Spiegate: Conservation projects focusing on sea turtles and raising environmental awareness, organised in partnership with Legambiente and other organisations. These projects include public volunteering events to clean up beaches and monitor marine life.
- Fondazione Humanitas per la Ricerca: Ongoing partnership with Fondazione Humanitas, which demonstrates its dedication to women’s health through the Pink Union campaign. Acqua dell’Elba has supported their research with donations raised through the sale of limited edition fragrances.
