ISOLA D'ELBA FROM 2020 TO 2035: MAURIZIO DIMAGGIO INTERVIEWS FABIO MURZI

In between the months of June and July we had the pleasure of hosting a great friend on his visit to the island, Maurizio DiMaggio, historical voice of Radio Montecarlo as well as an enthusiastic traveller (“DiMaggio sempre in viaggio” = “DiMaggio is always travelling” is his official nickname) who is literally in love with the island of Elba.

Sipping an “aperitivo” in the suggestive setting of the port of Marciana Marina, Maurizio met Fabio Murzi, president of Acqua dell’Elba, where they exchanged some interesting thoughts we would also like to share with you all. "The last time we spoke’, Maurizio reminded Fabio, ‘you confided that you were expecting a dignified summer. You are still confirming this opinion of yours?"                                                                                                                                                                                                    ’‘I have to say’, answered Fabio, ‘that if everything proceeds the way it’s going, this summer will end much better than we could have expected. We are really optimistic for this summer.’

Getting more into the specifics of the company’s activities, DiMaggio wanted to hear how Acqua dell’Elba’s numerous shops were doing, and Fabio Murzi’s answer was once again very positive: ‘For us it’s going very well, there is much demand. Of course, we cannot hide some difficulties in the main artistic / touristic cities of Italy: Rome, Florence and Venice are indeed suffering from a lack of foreign tourism. However, we are very confident in the results we are obtaining here on Isola
d’Elba.’

As always happens whenever friends chat together, analysis of current affairs shifts to talk about future perspectives, and the discussion naturally falls upon the #ELBA2035 project: ‘A project we deeply care about’, confided Fabio Murzi, ‘which involves all of the territory’s stakeholders: institutional, social, economic, the world of associations. The aim is to share all together the same vision of the future, at the same time leading and driving the sustainable development of Isola d’Elba. This is also another journey, starting in October and continuining through December, in order to reach its conclusion in February with the drafting of a manifesto for the sustainable development of Isola d’Elba. We will create three preparation workshops: one about sustainable tourism, one dedicated to culture and lifestyle, and one focussing on the environment and renewable energies.’
During these next 15 years, concluded Maurizio DiMaggio, the development of local territory will surely bring about noticeable changes, so it will the responsibility of future generations to make sure hey preserve their territory and environment.
