In 2021, Acqua dell’Elba became a Benefit Corporation. A precise commitment to generate a positive impact not only for the shareholders but also for all the stakeholders of the company: employees and collaborators, suppliers and customers, local community and territory, environment.
To be a Benefit Corporation means understanding your role in society differently: it's not just about achieving economic targets, but also about acknowledging direct responsibilities and practical obligations to generate value for the environment and society. The goal is to contribute to building a new model of society that is more equitable and attentive to the needs of human beings and the environment.
The path of Acqua dell’Elba towards sustainability:
- It starts from the inside, with a thorough review of management and production processes, and a significant and structured commitment to social responsibility. The transformation into a Benefit Company, the path towards decarbonisation started in 2021 and the decision to initiate, from 2023, the procedures for obtaining important certifications such as ISO 22716 on the quality of production processes in the sector (obtained in December 2024), ISO 14001 and EMAS III on environmental management systems (both in the process of being obtained), and FSC on the correct forest management and traceability of derived products (obtained in November 2024), are just the latest steps in a journey that starts from afar and opens up new competitive challenges for the company;
- It addresses relationships with collaborators and actions focused on health, safety, the promotion of gender equality, the growth and well-being of its employees, and embraces significant social demands in practice, such as those related to women's employment, who make up more than 90% of the company's workforce. It is in this direction that the decision was made to start, from 2023, the procedures for obtaining 3 important certifications, such as ISO 45001 on certified occupational safety (in progress), PAS24000 on Corporate Social Responsibility, and UNI/PdR 125:2022 on Gender Equality (both obtained in December 2024).
- It extends to the local community through various projects aimed at caring for and enhancing the region, managed both directly and via the Acqua dell’Elba Foundation. Established in 2022, the foundation focuses on supporting projects related to the environment, education, social issues, culture, and art.
- It extends to the 'enlarged community', to all the friends of Acqua dell'Elba throughout Italy with support for awareness-raising projects on sea-related issues and projects that focus on personal well-being, especially through support for important organisations that operate in research and medical care.
