Our tour of the cities hosting an Acqua dell’Elba flagship store takes us today to Florence, one of the main art cities in the world, favoured by many tourists from all over the planet for their holidays. All because of those things which make Tuscany a truly unique place: its nature, its tradition, and its art are for us a perpetual source of inspiration.
ACQUA DELL’ELBA IN FLORENCE: ART IN THE HEART OF THE CITY.
In the year of Cosimo I De’Medici’s 500thanniversary, which we will soon celebrate with a special initiative, whoever passes by Florence should not miss the opportunity of admiring a masterpiece which was brought to city from our own Isola d’Elba: the first great bronze masterpiece by Benvenuto Cellini, a bust of Cosimo I represented in the guise of an ancient Roman emperor. Conceived to decorate the main entrance to the star fort of Portoferraio (then known as Cosmopolis), the bust was subsequently moved to the Uffizi by Leopoldo I, and currently may be found in the Bargello museum in Florence.

Though Venice was the main market for woods and exotic spices used by perfumery artisans, Florence became the motherland of perfumery, exported to France through Caterina De’Medici’s marriage with the French monarch. An ideal trip down the memory lane of this historical artisanal past should absolutely include a visit to the Boboli gardens, rich in suggestive scents during springtime, a stop in Palazzo Vecchio where Cosimo had his alchemy laboratory, and, of course, a stroll through our shops in Via de’ Calzaiuoli and Piazza San Giovanni.

For more than 80 years, the “Festival del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino” (Florentine Musical May Festival) has represented one of the main events for music enthusiasts, hosting the greatest artists of every time and country. Another reason to connect music with perfume, after the definition of “notes” and “compositions” which speak about the elements constituting their very essence, is the new musical director of the Festival. Maestro Fabio Luisi, in fact, is a genial self-taught perfumer, who aside from impeccably conducting great orchestras all over the world, also delights in creating customised perfumes based on the personality of his clients.
