On 25 August 2026, Acqua dell’Elba’s 2026 Environmental Statement was validated by Bureau Veritas Italia, an accredited environmental verifier. This is the step that paves the way for EMAS registration, for which the application is currently under review.
EMAS is the European Union’s Eco-Management and Audit Scheme established by Regulation (EC) No. 1221/2009. It is a voluntary scheme: participating organisations assess their environmental impacts, work to improve their environmental performance over time and report their results publicly in a verifiable manner.
EMAS is closely linked to the ISO 14001 standard. In addition to the requirements of ISO 14001, EMAS requires organisations:
• To prepare a specific Environmental Statement for each site subject to audit, following the Initial Environmental Review and the completion of each subsequent audit cycle. The Statement is intended for the public and is written in a concise and accessible form;
• To update their environmental data and progress towards their objectives every year, with the updates validated by an accredited environmental verifier;
• To have their data and information verified by an independent, accredited verifier, who confirms their reliability;
• To establish objectives, strategies and indicators capable of capturing quantitative and qualitative data on the environmental impacts of their activities, and to take corrective action where the indicators show this to be necessary;
• To formally communicate their environmental policy to the local area, the public, public authorities and the wider community.
Acqua dell’Elba’s Journey
The 2026 Environmental Statement covers Acqua dell’Elba’s operational site at Val di Cappone in Marciana Marina, where its perfume and cosmetics manufacturing activities are carried out. It contains data updated to 31 March 2026 and is valid for the 2026–2029 period, with annual updates validated by an accredited environmental verifier.
The document describes the environmental aspects of the company’s activities and its environmental performance in relation to energy consumption, emissions to air, water consumption and discharges, waste, noise, soil, biodiversity and materials. It also sets out the company’s environmental improvement programme for the next three years and the objectives it has established: expanding its photovoltaic system, reducing CO₂ equivalent emissions, reducing hazardous waste as a proportion of total waste generated, and reducing the quantity of products handled that carry environmental hazard statements.
Validation of the Environmental Statement precedes registration. To complete the EMAS registration process, an application for registration has been submitted to ISPRA and is currently being processed. This will be followed by checks by the regional environmental protection agency and a decision by the Committee for Ecolabel and Ecoaudit, which assigns the registration number. From that point, Acqua dell’Elba will be entitled to use the EMAS logo, which will be displayed on this page.
