Acqua dell'Elba Foundation and SEIF 2023 celebrate the beauty of the sea
From June 30th to July 2nd, the Acqua dell'Elba Foundation is promoting the fifth edition of SEIF - the Sea Essence International Festival - the first international festival dedicated to safeguarding and enhancing the sea and its essence. The amazing setting in Marciana Marina, an ancient fishing village on the Island of Elba in the heart of the Tuscan Archipelago, is the ideal place to think about the sea and the issued related to it. The theme chosen for this edition is “transitions”.
Our Festival’s three “souls”
SEIF - the Sea Essence International Festival - has three “souls”, each of which conveys a direction being taken by the commitment of the Acqua dell'Elba Foundation, dedicated to the environment, education, society and art:
- educational,
- scientific, with in-depth meetings at 6pm on cultural, social and political issues related to enhancing the sea, with guests from the worlds of academia, research, politics and society. This year, the workshops will have the following themes:
- June 30th: “Change the climate, change the sea”
- 1: “The Economy of the sea"
- July 2nd: “The stories that change the sea”
- informative, with evenings dedicated to entertainment (shows, theater performances and concerts), which are also designed to promote the culture of the sea. On the 30th in the evening, the Banda Osiris musicians will the perform the show “4 fish out of water”; on 1/7, it will be time for the theatrical show directed by Viola Centi “Tarantella - Popular rhythms”, which gives new music to the Ulysses epic Nostos; finally, on 2/7, Alessandro Vanoli will take to the stage with the show "La Storia del Mare".
SEIF 2023 has obtained the patronage of the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security, the Ministry of Civil Protection and Marine Policies, the Tuscany Region, the Coast Guard - Port Authority, Legambiente, Ispra, Asvis, Marevivo, Federparchi, Symbola, IULM University, the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, the Municipality of Marciana Marina, the Municipality of Marciana, the Municipality of Portoferraio, the Municipality of Campo Nell'Elba, the Municipality of Porto Azzurro, the Municipality of Rio, the Municipality of Capoliveri, the Municipality of Livorno, Pro Loco Marciana Marina, the Tuscan Archipelago National Park, VisitElba, and the Youth Forum of Elba.
The theme of transitions
The theme that has been chosen for the fifth edition of SEIF 2023 is "Transitions". Consequently, all the activities for the three days of the Festival will focus on the paths to be taken to achieve increasing sustainability for the marine ecosystem, questioning how the environment, economy and society can work together to achieve this goal.
The starting point is, as always, the need to integrate the concept of ecological transition into the new environmental, economic and social equilibrium in our country. The challenge we are facing must be moved forward with the utmost responsibility and cooperation by all the key players.
Artist’s Room Diffusers for a special occasion
The Acqua dell'Elba products and ethos are all about the sea, therefore what better occasion to celebrate this than during the festival? To mark SEIF, the limited edition of the Artist’s Room Diffuser 2023 has been created: it is a customization of Acqua dell'Elba's most iconic room fragrance, Mare, that reproduces in silkscreen one of the works of the sandpaper collages of the "Mediterraneo" series by Christine Sammarco.
The collages by Cristina Sammarco are a material distillation of the sea, filtered through sensations. The place of inspiration is Elba Island, which the artist brings to life in the multiplicity of its colors.
The art critic Roberto Borghi describes the sea as represented by Cristina Sammarco as "a filter, a setting capable of distilling states of grace, of allowing life to reach its zenith."
It is a beautiful message which in turn becomes our gift to the sea: the net proceeds from the operation will go to support the projects of the Acqua dell'Elba Foundation.

On Sunday July 2nd, as part of the SEIF 2023 program, we will travel with the guides of the Tuscan Archipelago National Park along the "La Via dell'Essenza" trail, which goes from Marciana Marina to Sant'Andrea: this 7 km route completely overlooks the sea, with all the scents, colors and beauty of the Island of Elba.
