Acqua dell’Elba and the Acqua dell’Elba Foundation Launch “Green Week” to Promote Projects in Support of Environmental and Social Sustainability

  • The week from the 21st to the 27th of November will see the return of Green Week organised by Acqua dell’Elba and the Acqua dell’Elba Foundation, an enterprise focussing on environmental, social, and economic sustainability through events, workshops, local initiatives, and the launch of SEIF 2023, the international festival dedicated to the safeguard and development of the sea.
  • Projects intended to raise awareness among schools have already been launched: Marta Musso, the young marine biologist recipient of the 2022 “Woman of the Sea” prize by IOC-UNESCO, will introduce its itinerant laboratory “Possea” to explore the world of plankton; whilst the author Marzia Camarda will present the initiatives dedicated to gender equality and female empowerment.
  •  In order to contrast the unrestrained consumerism of Black Friday, Green Week will also land in Venice: the Acqua dell’Elba Foundation will take part in the Blue Friday (25 and 26 November) organised by IOC-UNESCO, within the ambit of the Decade of the Sea.
  • In order to raise awareness around a more responsible form of consumerism, Acqua dell’Elba this year will no longer offer discounts for Black Friday as it has always done: instead, it will gift its customers with a package called “Green Box”, the net profits of which will be entirely devolved in support of the Foundation’s projects.

Transforming the day of unrestrained shopping that is Black Friday and its negative effects into a moment dedicated to sustainability, intended in all of its facets: social, economic, environmental. The week from the 21st to the 27th of November will see the return, for its third edition of the Green Week organised by Acqua dell’Elba – Benefit Corporation, artisanal manufacturers of perfumes, and by the Acqua dell’Elba Foundation, a not-for-profit entity created to contribute its support to the safeguard of the island’s ecosystem, whilst also developing its social and cultural heritage.

A week of events, workshops and initiatives focussing on care for territory and for people, with special attention on future generations, which will be the occasion for the Acqua dell’Elba Foundation to present the sustainability and social responsibility activities it plans for 2023, “culture, health, and art.

The opening act of the Green Week (21 November) will consist of the launch of SEIF 2023 (Sea Essence International Festival), the first international festival dedicated to the safeguard and development of the sea and of its essence. It will return to animate Isola d’Elba next summer, with its fifth edition and its theme of “Transitions”: at the core of the debate will be the necessity to integrate the ecological transition into new environmental, economic, and social equilibriums.

During the first day of Green Week, the Foundation will present the state of the art and future developments of the “La Via dell’Essenza” project which aims to realise, in collaboration with the Tuscan Archipelago National Park, a coastal pathway all around Isola d’Elba. On the topic of Health, instead, collaboration will continue with the associations “EndoElba”, in support of women with Endometriosis, and “Diversamente Sani Elba Onlus”, a beacon of hope for all Elban oncological patients and their families. Furthermore, a tender notice will be put forward to co-finance projects for the Public Authorities of Isola d’Elba.

Education will also be fundamental in Acqua dell’Elba Foundation’s 2023, with a series of initiatives starting precisely during Green Week.

On the 24th of November, at the Foresi Institute, students of Elban high schools will be introduced to the Possea project by Marta Musso, the young marine biologist winner of the 2022 “Woman of the Sea” prize by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO, within the ambit of the Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030). With “Possea”, Marta Musso transformed an old van of the German Mail into an itinerant laboratory intended for the narration and exploration of the world of plankton, through on-the-field experiences, learning workshops and didactic-educational materials dedicated to the culture of the sea.

In the schools of Isola d’Elba, the Foundation will also promote initiatives dedicated to gender equality and female empowerment, thanks to the work already started with Marzia Camarda, author, cultural entrepreneur and expert in general didactics and gender equality, who will be featured at the Cerboni Institute (23 November) in order to spark a debate around these topics that will include teachers as well as students.

Gender equality and female empowerment will be at the center of the Green Week also through the presentation of the project “Guidelines for Marketing and External Relations” (23 November), aimed at providing Acqua dell’Elba and all of its partners with a set of guidelines for the correct management, treatment, and communication, internal and external, of these topics. Among its planned activities is the production of a ten-point manifesto allowing Acqua dell’Elba and its partners to work on their internal and external communication whilst taking into account every need that may arise in relation to these thematics.

Lastly, on the 25 and 26 of November, the Green Week will move from Isola d’Elba to Venice, where the Acqua dell’Elba Foundation will take part in Blue Friday, the two-day event organised by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO within the ambit of the Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030), to turn the blackest Friday of the year into an occasion to protect and regenerate our own Mediterranean Sea. The initiative will take place in the prestigious backdrop of Palazzo Zorzi, the UNESCO HQ in Venice, in order to present projects and promote cultural initiatives dedicated to the protection of the sea and the restoration of its biodiversity.

Precisely to raise awareness on a more critical and responsible consumerism, this year Acqua dell’Elba will not offer, as always in the past, any form of discount for Black Friday. Instead, upon a minimum purchase worth at least 98 Euros, customers will receive as a gift the “Green Box”, a package containing a 500-ml Home fragrance diffuser of choice: the net profit of this entire operation will be devolved in support of new projects by the Acqua dell’Elba Foundation.
