ELBA2035: FROM VISION TO STRATEGY
The 10th of December marked a great leap forward on the course of ELBA2035, by reuniting representatives of the institutions, entrepreneurs, associations and students around three distinct workshops whose task it was to map a series of concrete themes, grouped in well defined clusters.
The ENVIRONMENT workshop focussed on the responsible management of water and waste, on the concept of climate neutrality and how to achieve it, on the reduction of greenhouse gases, on the safeguard of the sea and the conservation and development of biodiversity.
The workshop dedicated to SUSTAINABLE TOURISM concentrated on services available to the local territory, both around work and leisure time, on a governance project for sustainability, and on sustainable transport.
Finally, the CULTURE AND LIFESTYLE workshop centred around the development and strategic formation of human resources, healthcare, the investments necessary to promote sustainable development as well as the safeguard and promotion of the island’s traditions, with a special focus on the historical, enological and gastronomic heritage.
All of these themes will turn into concrete planning documents during the next few months, to be shared and debated at the next reunion, scheduled for the 26th of March 2021.
Starting from that date onwards, the actual drafting work for a “Manifesto for the Sustainable Development of Isola d’Elba” will begin, only to culminate in a presentation of this document to the public on the 2nd of July, during the third edition of SEIF - Sea Essence International Festival.
However, that milestone will still not be the final anchorage: from there, each single project must plot its course according to its specificity, yet all jointly guided by the same north star: making our island increasingly beautiful and sustainable, a concrete example of how it can truly be conceivable and possible to realise a shared vision of development, capable of bringing an improvement in the quality of life of the citizens and guests of Elba.
