#ELBA2035: INTERVIEW WITH GIAMPIERO SAMMURI

President of the Tuscan Archipelago National Park, Giampiero Sammuri is another of the “Visionaries” we selected together with Ernst &Young to jointly identify the most interesting themes to be debated during the drafting process of the #ELBA2035 manifesto.

In view of the upcoming webinar about local territory and sustainability, planned for the 1 st of July, we invited him to explain how he would like Isola d’Elba to be in 2035: ‘First of all,’ Sammuri answered, ‘I would like to see much less atmospheric pollution, both by optimising renewable energy sources for buildings and other activities, as well as for transports. Even there we could do much to improve, for example I’m thinking about marine transport: using the sea which surrounds us to transport people from one side of the island to the other could even become a touristic attraction’.

As President of the Tuscan Archipelago National Park, Sammuri is of course very sensitive when it comes to the sea: ‘Safeguarding the sea is also important, by extending the reach of the Park not only to the landmass of the islands, but also as far as to cover the element which unites them, truly making them an archipelago. This would allow the island to become an even more important territory from the ecological point of view’.

During the next few days, alongside more interviews with our “Visionaries” we will share more information regarding the upcoming webinar entitled: “Sustainable Development: How Much Value Resides in Local Territories? A Shared Vision and Co-creation of Local Initiatives for Italy’s Relaunch”.
