#ELBA2035: THE FUTURE IS AN ISLAND.

To prepare a “Manifesto for the Sustainable Development of the Island of Elba”: this is the purpose of the #ELBA2035 project, an initiative taking the structure of a shared participation approach, in which various important players from the world of politics, culture, environmental protection, associations and schools are all involved.

Presented during the 2019 edition of SEIF – Sea Essence International Festival, strenuously supported by Acqua dell’Elba and coordinated by EY, a worldwide network of professional service providers charged with supervising every phase of the project, #ELBA2035 has so far involved 12 “visionaries” from Elba and elsewhere, tasked with imagining the future of the island in the upcoming years: among them is also Enrico Giovannini, formerly a Minister of Socio-Economic Policy as well as a President of Istat (the Italian National Institute of Statistics).

The true leading actors of the future, however, will surely be the youth of today: this is why the shared participation approach has also involved the students of the Foresi institute in Portoferraio. On Wednesday the 12th of February, a hundred students from the third class were presented with two projects expressly devised for them.
The first is a video-contest titled “How Do You Imagine Isola d’Elba in 2035?”. An ideal instrument for the generation of Tik-Tok mini-videos, this contest will allow ten students to take part in all of the crucial steps (such as events and meetings) along the roadmap leading to the official presentation of the Sustainability Manifesto, during the 2020 edition of SEIF. The proposals must be submitted by the 25th of February.

This will be followed by a Hackathon, a challenge of ideas starting on the 23rd of March: during the week celebrating World Water Day, ideas and proposals will be gathered from the kids as inspiration for the Sustainability Manifesto which will turn Elba into the first “minor island” with a long-term vision for sustainable development.

The 20th of March, instead, will be the date for the first official #ELBA2035 workshop, followed by a series of other events which will be punctually announced on our blog, so that we can share this roadmap with all of you, keeping you constantly updated on the visions of the future narrated by our various visionaries during the course of #ELBA2035’s appointments.
