From 25 November to 1 December 2024, Acqua dell’Elba’s Green Week returns, with a series of events dedicated entirely to triple sustainability: environmental, economic and social.
The first scheduled event is on the morning of Tuesday 26 November at the high schools ITCG Cerboni in Portoferraio and ISIS Foresi in Portoferraio. During the morning, the 100 books donated by the Fondazione Acqua dell’Elba in the context of the “Book Project” will be distributed, three-quarters of which chosen by the students and teachers of the two institutes and one quarter by the Fondazione Acqua dell’Elba on a theme that varies from year to year. For 2024-25 Academic year, the theme chosen was Artificial Intelligence and its correct and fruitful application in everyday life.
After the book handover ceremony, the “kick-off” to this year’s “Work Project” will be given, also focused on AI. In both schools, two classes will compete in preparing a debate on the topic of AI, using one or more of the donated books on the subject. The final debate will be held at the end of the school year.
AI is also the protagonist of the second scheduled event, taking place on the afternoon of 26 November. In this case, the beneficiaries of the book donation will be the employees of Acqua dell’Elba, again on the topic of AI. This will be followed by a lecture by Prof. Guido di Fraia, who will help the audience to better understand the challenges and opportunities of AI in everyday work.
Prof. Di Fraia is Associate Professor at IULM University in Milan, and IULM Vice-rector for Innovation and Communication, as well as Founder and CEO of the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory “IULM AI Lab”. Lecturer in Methodology and Technique of Social Research, he is Coordinator of the Digital Marketing course of the Master’s degree course in Marketing Consumption and Communication at the same University. Creator and scientific head of the IULM Master in Social Media Marketing & Digital Communication and the IULM DMBA Master - Data Management & Business Analytics. He has always been active in research, training and consultancy on communication and digital marketing issues for companies and public administrations.
The third appointment of Green Week 2024 is on Wednesday the 27th at the Acqua dell’Elba headquarters in Val di Cappone, Marciana Marina.
In the presence also of the press and other stakeholders of Acqua dell’Elba, the 2024 results of both the activities of the Fondazione Acqua dell’Elba and the Acqua dell’Elba sustainability projects will be presented.
To follow, a ceremony of participation in the Elba 2035 project of the Maremma and Tyrrhenian Chamber of Commerce. In the presence of the Secretary General, Dr. Pierluigi Giuntoli, the Elba 2035 Manifesto will also be signed by the Maremma and Tyrrhenian Chamber of Commerce, which commits all signing parties to launch projects in line with the spirit of the Manifesto.
Finally, an important event by Omnisyst, the partner chosen this year by Acqua dell’Elba to purchase the carbon credits needed to offset, for the fourth year in a row, Acqua dell’Elba’s Co2 emissions. The focus of the talk will obviously be the Carbon Footprint, together with all the initiatives the company is carrying out to reduce its environmental impact as much as possible.
The fourth day of Green Week, Thursday the 28th, will be dedicated to women’s health, a topic that both the Fondazione Acqua dell’Elba and Acqua dell’Elba have been working on for some time. The encounter will be twofold.
The first part of the morning will be devoted to EndoElba and to support of its activities. A special “Yellow Bench” will be installed in the garden of the company headquarters. EndoElba’s yellow benches represent a message to raise awareness of Endometriosis issues among the entire population.
In the early afternoon, a webinar will be held on the topic of breast cancer prevention, curated by the Fondazione Humanitas per la Ricerca. The project is part of the activities to support Pink Union and Sorrisi in Rosa, which began already in October with the donation of 1,000 Arcipelago Donna perfumes in a special “Rosa Pink Union” packaging to FHR and used by it for a fund-raising campaign to help promote research.
Lastly, on Friday the 29th and Saturday the 30th, Green Week will move from the Island of Elba to Venice, where the Fondazione Acqua dell’Elba will take part in Blue Friday, the event organised by the UNESCO Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) as part of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030) “to transform the blackest Friday of the year into an opportunity to safeguard and regenerate our Mediterranean Sea”.
This year the initiative will take place over two days and will see the Fondazione Acqua dell’Elba and Acqua dell’Elba engaged on a threefold front: disseminating the Elba 2035 experience; presenting a preview of the 2025 edition of SEIF - Sea Essence International Festival; and presenting the “Blue Schools on the Island of Elba” project, realised in collaboration with IOC Unesco.
