Green Week 2024, back to the week dedicated to a sustainable future

From 25 November to 1 December 2024 the Green Week is back, an opportunity for discussion and reflection on the challenges of environmental, social and economic sustainability. Now in its fourth edition, the green week, launched by Acqua dell'Elba and Fondazione Acqua dell'Elba, will be divided into a series of events and dialogues, focusing on assessing the outcomes of 2024 and outlining the goals for 2025. The protagonist of this edition will be the Foundation, as well as the projects in the five areas in which it operates: environment, education, culture, social, and art.

The Green Week 2024 opens on 26 November with an event dedicated to culture and education. As part of the ‘Progetto Libri’ of Fondazione Acqua dell'Elba, an initiative that every year involves primary and secondary schools on the island, 100 books will be given to the students of the I.T.C. G. Cerboni and ISIS Foresi institutes in Portoferraio; the chosen topic is that of artificial intelligence, analysed in its ethical, social and practical implications.

The initiative seeks to foster critical reflections and new perspectives on innovation and technology, insights that will persist throughout the school year and culminate in the ‘Project Work’ at year's end, where two classes per institute will engage in a final debate on AI, using the provided books as the basis for their arguments.

In the afternoon, Acqua dell'Elba will involve its employees in a training event on the same topic, in a lecture by Prof. Guido Di Fraia, a professor at the IULM University of Milan, dedicated to the opportunities and challenges of AI in the world of work.

Elba 2035, a manifesto for the sustainable future

On November 27, the Green Week gets to the heart with a moment of reflection and shared commitment: the presentation of the annual outcomes of the activities of Fondazione Acqua dell’Elba and of the sustainability projects of Acqua dell'Elba. At the Marciana Marina headquarters, the event will provide a chance to share the achievements and future plans with the press, stakeholders and the local community.

One of the central moments of the day will be the formal adhesion of the Maremma and Tyrrhenian Chamber of Commerce to the Elba 2035 Manifesto, a tangible commitment to a sustainable development of the territory. Conceived and promoted by Fondazione Acqua dell’Elba, the manifesto is intended as a guide for all those who want to contribute to the enhancement of the island through initiatives and projects that respect the environment, support the local economy and promote social well-being. Elba 2035 focuses on the beauty and fragility of the territory and stands as a symbol of how shared commitment can be transformed into tangible actions, fostering a sustainable vision that transcends beyond the borders of the island to inspire global change.

Finally, on the same day, Omnisyst will present the Acqua dell'Elba project aimed at offsetting its Carbon Footprint, reducing CO2 emissions and minimising the corporate impact on the environment.

Women's health and Blue Friday, the commitment of Acqua dell'Elba and of the Foundation

The 28th of November will be entirely dedicated to women's well-being, a topic that has always been at the heart of the initiatives of Acqua dell'Elba and of the Foundation. In the morning, a special ‘Yellow Bench’ will be installed in the garden of the corporate headquarters, in collaboration with EndoElba, to raise awareness in the community on endometriosis. These benches, a symbol of resilience and awareness, are an invitation to reflect on the importance of women's health, turning a shared environment into a place of dialogue and hope.

In the afternoon, a webinar curated by Fondazione Humanitas per la Ricerca will address the topic of breast cancer prevention, continuing the commitment of Acqua dell'Elba to supporting initiatives such as Pink Union and Sorrisi in Rosa. The latter, in particular, included the donation of 1,000 Arcipelago Donna perfumes in a special pink package, which were used for a fundraising campaign supporting research. A day that stands as a tangible example of how the Green Week focuses not only on environmental protection, but also on that of people, underlining the importance of a holistic approach to sustainability, which takes into account the health and well-being of communities.

Venice will once again host the Green Week for the third consecutive year, on 29 and 30 November, with the Blue Friday, an event that emphasises the importance of safeguarding the sea as a valuable resource. Three projects will be presented here by Acqua dell'Elba and the Foundation: the 2025 edition of the SEIF Festival, ‘Blue Schools’, an initiative carried out together with IOC UNESCO to involve the schools of the island in the protection of the oceans and, on November 29, ‘Elba 2035’ and how to integrate this experience in Venice as well.
